Annual General Meeting 17 April 2008
We look forward to welcoming you to the Association's Annual General Meeting to be held on Thursday 17 April at 7.30pm in St. Mary's Church Hall, Ilex Way. The AGM will be followed by a presentation entitled: Films: Old Worthing and Comedy Southdown Film Club. Both our Vice Chairman and Chairman will be standing down at the AGM and we are seeking nominations for both positions. Nominations for either position should be sent to the Secretary at 14 Ilex Way, Goring by Sea, BN12 4UZ by 31 March.

We've had another busy year with a lot of time being spent defending the Greensward and this continues to be a major concern. In an effort to obtain more protection for the area we have made an application for village green status. The Sea Place/Eirene Road development has been agreed in principle but we remain vigilant. We are also in touch with the Council regarding the application to convert 28/30 Marine Drive into a block of flats plus the proposal to build swings for the 2+ age group and a "challenging play facility" for the over 12's on the Greensward. We would strongly recommend that residents write to the Planning Department at Portland House, Richmond Road BN11 1HS to express their views and concerns.

Goring by Sea Action Group against Anti-Social Behaviour
Our Association supports the ASB campaigns carried out by the Action Group for the mutual benefit of Goring residents and would recommend as many GRA members as possible attend their four meetings this year. They are to be held on the following Thursdays at the St Mary's Church Hall, starting at 6.30 to 8pm latest: 27th March,29th May, 17th July and 18th September.

There are always officials from Worthing Police and Worthing Borough Council, plus Goring Councillors and a West Sussex Councillor in attendance

Coach Outing 8 July for GRA Members
The outing this year, is to Hever Castle in Kent, the home of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's second wife. The cost is £20 which includes coach and entrance to the castle and gardens.

Social Programme
We hope you enjoy the speakers we arrange for the monthly meetings. Our new programme starts on 18 September with a visit by Worthing Magistrates. Please note that on this occasion the meeting will start at 8.15pm. We have also organised a wine tasting evening for 20 November, just in time for Christmas! Full details of the programme will be printed on your next membership card. Do please let us know if there are subjects/speakers you would like to suggest for the programme.

Theatre Trips
Don't forget the Association also runs theatre trips; these organised by Ruby Guest. We enjoyed a visit to the New Victoria Theatre in Woking on 14 February to see David Essex in Aspects of Love and are to see The Clean House, starring Patricia Hodge at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford in April. If you would like to know more, please contact Ruby on 01903 243696.

Christmas/New Year
We had another enjoyable Christmas lunch at the tennis club and celebrated New Year with 'Maestro Leonardo' the comic magician who provided us with great entertainment.

Our contribution to The Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary's Church was entitled "Goring, Past and Present". The Festival raised an impressive £6,000 for The Chestnut Tree Hospice. Thanks to everyone who helped with time, ideas and photographs.

Odds and Ends
If you would like to get more involved in the community we would like to hear from you. We need people to deliver membership cards and newsletters and to collect subscriptions. If you could do any of these our Membership Secretary, David Rolph 01903 503609, would love to hear from you.

Obituary
We are very sorry to report that Pat Hale, a loyal and long standing member of the Goring Residents Association, died in 2007. For many years Pat organized our Theatre Outings and brought much pleasure to our members. Her voluntary duties as a Road Warden were much appreciated, particularly introducing many new members. We shall miss her help and enthusiasm.

News update Nov. 2008
The latest news we have on Sea Place/ Eirene Rd.development is that the Council have extended the consultations with themselves and the developers until the end of this month. As soon as we hear of the outcome we will put what we know on our website.
